WordCamp Phoenix 2011

Ravensteed (also known as MRI Optimize Consultants) helps sponsor Phoenix Wordcamp 2011 on  January 26-31, 2011

WordPress is the most commonly used open source web CMS (content management system).  While WordPress started out as an open source blogging platform back in 2003, it was written by Matt Mullenweg. Because the “open source community” believes that internet tools should be free, many have provided and written modular “plug-ins” and widgets that can be plugged into the design templates or themes and tailored to the use of the owner. Some template and plug-in upgrades require nominal payments, but much of the work requests donations for the hours of time individual coders invest into sharing their knowledge, and getting credit for the development they share with the WordPress open source community.

Thirteen percent of the largest 1,000,000 websites are built using WordPress, and version 3.0 has been downloaded over 12.5 million times since August 2010.  Featured speakers are offering their expertise in how to build, maintain and operate a WordPress based website. Many attending range from open source developers, plug-in coders to beginning bloggers and website creators. Some of the bloggers or SMEs (subject matter experts) attend to learn how to better use WordPress for their specific and tailored purposes.

Ravensteed representatives have been involved in Social Media since before “Social Media” actually had a name. Members in our group had our first websites up back in the 1990′s, and have integrated into the social media community to learn, share and grow.

It’s no wonder then, that we are involved in WordCamp Phoenix 2011 as both sponsors, and helpers.  We believe in helping others find their online voices!

The unique and beautiful artwork done by Amanda Hawkins is profoundly representative of an “Out West” attitude and theme, but the functional Wordcamp website was done by none other than Chuck Reynolds, a master of WordPress and one of the featured speakers for the past several Phoenix Wordcamps.

In summary, we had a great time spending one of the days with Boone Gerges, who runs the largest WordPress website in the world, CUNY, with twenty-three locations, and with sponsors sharing their samples, and with other teachers from around the country, all brought together by the incredible Amanda Blum and Chuck Reynolds, the main organizers of the largest WordPress Wordcamp event (until Jan 2011) numbering over 700 attendees.

An affiliate program is an excellent way to get people to amp up your marketing and publicity.  It motivates people who already have a working site, already know you and your products, or already spend a lot of time online to act as a sales force, helping to drive traffic to your site, for a small commission.  This allows you to really start taking greater advantage of both your reputation with your customers, and the person-to-person nature of social media. If you already are using WordPress as a CMS, and know how to operate the back-end,...

Free “Social Media Formula” Feedback Sign

Here’s an original Ravensteed idea….and you saw it here first, because we were the first to come up with it! If your customers are happy with you, you want them talking to everyone.  If they’re not happy, you certainly want them talking to you first. The problem is, it’s all too often just the opposite that happens.  A happy customer is usually a quiet customer, but an unhappy customer has limitless time and energy to tell everyone they know all about what’s making them unhappy. What’s needed is a way to...

SEO & Search Engine Optimization

2009′s release of Google Caffeine had the techie community buzzing about the new secret algorithms from Google on how the search bots ranked websites. It seems people want the shortcuts. This just does not happen. It takes work to create original content, and climb the rankings ladder to success.  Here is something you won’t want to...

Make Your Site Valuable

Make Your Site Valuable

Once upon a time, a website was nothing more than a collection of fairly complicated technical documents in a simple pseudo-programming language that – somehow – a web browser could translate into a page for your customers to see.  If you wanted anything about that site changed, someone had to dig into the code and make the changes “by hand”, like building a new sign out front every time you want to change the specials. We called them “static” sites.  Once built, they stayed the way they were until someone...

A Web Site…

A Web Site…

…Just Isn’t Enough Anymore. There was a time when a sign out front was pretty much all you needed.  Then, some clever fella invented the telephone, and next thing you know you need a telephone number and a phone book listing.  Enough businesses with phones, and someone invents the Yellow Pages… Now you need a listing there too.  Then, you need a fax number, then an email address, then a web site. Now, for millions of people, Yahoo, Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube pretty much are the web.  Every day, they ‘Like’...
